WESLEY DIENER

Wesley Diener graduated from the University of Virginia, where he received Highest Distinction for his studies in music and drama. There, he performed in various musicals, including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Wonderful Town, The Producers, and several musical theatre cabarets. He has also performed leading roles in numerous other musicals, including Sweeney Todd and West Side Story with the Bethesda Music Festival, Into the Woods with Wildwood Theatre, and Miss Saigon with Young Artists of America.

Wesley has particularly enjoyed the opportunity to work with and learn from esteemed artists. He performed solos from Les Miserables for Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain-Boublil, the composer and librettist of the musical, during their residency at the University of Virginia. He also performed with composer and pianist Jason Robert Brown in Songs for a New Worldwith Young Artists of America.

Wesley has garnered success as a vocal competitor in musical theatre performance. In 2017, he placed first in musical theatre performance at the VA NATS competition and has also performed as a national semi-finalist in musical theatre performance at NATS.

In addition to his performing experience, Wesley works actively as a musical theatre stage director. Most recently, he directed Junie B. Jones Jr. and Pirates Past Noon with DMR Adventures in Charlottesville, VA. He also directed The Last Five Years with the Virginia Players and assisted Mary Birnbaum (Julliard) on her production of Oklahoma with Charlottesville Opera. Outside of musical theatre, he directed an opera, Le devin du village, with the UVA Department of Music and Viewing Pleasure with the UVA Department of Drama.

Wesley also offers a breadth of teaching experience in musical theatre performance. He maintains a studio of over 20 vocal students that specialize in musical theatre performance. Wesley’s students have performed in professional and community theatre productions, have won local competitions, and have been invited to national auditions. He currently directs the All Stars and Starshine Singers at DMR Adventures and has music directed several musicals and cabarets.
