2019-2020 POLICIES

SCHEDULING

Scheduling is done through your teacher directly. Your teacher will schedule for you using your package code on your behalf to ensure you get the days and times you have mutually agreed upon.

Receive confirmation emails for all scheduled and rescheduled appointments. Login if you have a registered account to view a list of your lessons and see when your package expires.

All packages are "use it or lose it" and Blue Feather nor the instructor are not responsible if you do not use your lessons before the expiration date of your contract.

If your primary instructor is unavailable to deliver all the lessons we will connect you with a sub.

All teachers with Blue Feather Music are considered Independent Contractors. As such, Blue Feather Music legally cannot dictate individual instructors weekly schedules and/or holiday schedules. Therefore, all scheduling will be done directly between instructor and student.

Certain Flex weeks are to be mutually decided on between teacher and student. Some Blue Feather Music teachers have predetermined time off so please check with your instructor directly. To learn more, see “Flex Weeks” section.

*Music should always be a source of joy! To ensure respect and honor for your investment, the student’s interests and the teacher’s time and expertise, occasional recommendations for different instructors, alternative instruments or waiting to start lessons for whatever reason might be made.

PERMANENT SCHEDULE CHANGES

We understand that sometimes schedules change, and we will accommodate this to the best of our ability. Please give us at least three-week’s notice of needing a permanent day/time change.

The studio runs at full capacity most of the time so changing your day/time can result in a less than ideal schedule. In these cases we ask for your flexibility and patience as we work to find a time that is convenient for both family and instructor.

***Please note: all teachers are sub-contractors and are with us select days of the week. When initially deciding upon a day and time with your teacher, be aware they may not be able to accommodate you if you change when you need/want lessons. All teachers are required to be as upfront with their clients as possible but we cannot make any guarantees if you make changes.

CHANGING LESSON LENGTH

That is definitely possible and the administration will accommodate to the best of their ability. It will depend on teacher availability and client will be charged automatically for the difference in tuition cost

TUITION

When purchase a package, you are essentially reserving your teachers time. Because of this Blue Feather operates on a 'pay-to-book system. Lessons must be paid before your teacher will arrive.

Tuition cost is determined by your package arrangement, ranging from 6 months to 12 months commitment, going up incrementally in investment from the largest to smallest commitment level.

Tuition is the total price of your all-inclusive package: registration fees, performance fees, and lessons.

Your exact tuition total will be outlined specifically in your lessons package proposal and is paid in quarterly installments.

Tuition will be processed by our secure connection with Stripe.

Tuition fees are a transparent price, with no additional taxes or credit card fees are applied.

Read more under “Payment and Enrollment”.

SIBLING DISCOUNT

A siblings discount can be made if siblings are taking lessons back-to-back ONLY.

Please let the administration know during the registration process if this is how your lessons arrangement will be and a discount can be applied to your tuition.

If at any time the siblings lessons are separated and need different days and times, the difference in tuition will be applied and automatically charged using your card on file.

WHERE DOES MY TUITION GO?

If you are concerned with being charged for services not rendered, we assure you, your tuition is always working for you.

Teachers spend a great deal of time outside of lessons choosing and purchasing repertoire, planning, scouting auditions and opportunities for their students, participating in continuing ed courses and professional development for themselves, and more.

Blue Feather Music kindly reminds all students and families that you receive more of our professional time that you actually pay for.

MISSED LESSONS OR CANCELLATIONS

Blue Feather teachers invest a great deal of time and energy preparing and traveling to your lesson, therefore a minimum of 24-hours notice is required for a student absence unless in the case of illness or family emergency,

Please contact your teacher directly to arrange a reschedule. We can only accommodate a reschedule if it is in alignment with our cancellation policy terms of 24-hours notice. Reschedules are not unlimited.

Like other professional services, we reserve designated lesson time especially for you or your child, that your instructor cannot fill in your absence with another student.

Because of this, Blue Feather cannot offer make-up credits for absences and/or missed lessons that occur because students have conflicts, games, family travel, etc. Instead, all lessons packages contain fewer lessons than weeks to allow for reschedules. Please see “Flex Weeks” for more detail.

Blue Feather cannot accommodate additional rescheduled lessons beyond the expiration date of your lessons package. Built-in flex weeks with packages were carefully considered and offer several opportunities where a missed lesson can be rescheduled.

Reschedules are always at the availability of the instructor(s).

Due to the nature of packages and flex-weeks, reschedules, regardless of the kind of package you purchased, are first-come-first-serve and based on when your teacher is available. We cannot guarantee the same exact day and time for your reschedule.

In order to offer the amazing financial and scheduling benefit of flex weeks to our families and remain solvent as a business, we have to be pretty strict with our cancellations and missed lessons policies. Thank you for understanding.

FREE WEEKS

‘Flex-weeks' or FREE weeks you don’t have to have lessons are built-in to all packages which offer several opportunities where a missed lesson can be rescheduled. This means you have FREE weeks in which you don't have to have lessons.

All teachers with Blue Feather Music are considered Independent Contractors. As such, Blue Feather Music legally cannot dictate individual instructors schedules and/or holiday schedules. Please contact them directly regarding their schedules.

Certain Flex weeks and observed holidays are to be mutually decided on between teacher and student. Some Blue Feather Music teachers have predetermined time off so please check with your instructor directly.

NO SHOWS

“No Shows”, meaning there was a lesson scheduled but the student was not present with no advanced notice, are forfeited and will count toward a lesson in your package and that lesson will not be rescheduled.

STUDIO CLOSURE DATES

The studio does not  have universal closure dates. All teachers with Blue Feather Music are considered Independent Contractors. As such, Blue Feather Music legally cannot dictate individual instructors holiday schedules.

Any holidays, vacation, travel, summer breaks will be determined directly between each instructor and the student.

Read more under “Flex Weeks”.

ILLNESS

We take illness very seriously, as our teachers rely on their health to work and perform.

If you or your student is sick, please call your teacher directly to reschedule as soon as possible. Under absolutely NO circumstances should you attend your lesson sick! (e.g. fever, or been on antibiotics for less than 24 hours)

If the student is well enough (not contagious and does not have a fever) to attend school or work, do not hesitate to attend your lesson. Although we might not be singing or using the instrument, there are plenty of other activities related to musicianship, theory, history, listening exercises, and more.

The non-instrument lesson is very productive and yet allows the student to rest their instrument.

If you have multiple students in one household, it’s possible to use the sick student’s time with the other siblings if, and ONLY if, your teacher feels comfortable.

Please discuss this with your teacher directly as each instructor will feel differently about this option.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

If a lesson or class is cancelled because of inclement weather you will receive a reschedule, or credit in extreme cases only. In extreme weather, online lessons are also an option. See ONLINE LESSONS section below.

ONLINE  LESSONS

In the event a student is sick or otherwise unable to attend their lesson in person, online lessons are a wonderful alternative. Rescheduling to an online lesson will be arranged directly with your instructor and may not happen at the regularly scheduled lesson time.

An online lesson is not wasted time, as there are plenty of non-piano musical activities that can be accomplished through video lessons, and these can be an excellent option for busy families. There is no pro-rating for online lessons.

Blue Feather’s preferred online platform is ZOOM.

Please visit zoom.us or contact the administration for more information.

TEACHER CANCELLATION

Your teacher will adhere to the same 24-hour notice policy, and will reschedule the missed lesson per their availability.  If the teacher cancels, you are entitled to a substitute, reschedule or in rare cases  a refund.

SUBSTITUTES

In the instance of a teacher cancellation, your teacher will attempt to secure a substitute teacher.

All substitutes are exceptional professionals and musicians who can step in seamlessly to provide the same quality lesson you have come to expect from Blue Feather Music.

They are current teachers on staff or teachers that have been personally and extensively interviewed and vetted by the administrative team, background-checked by our legal team, and have excellent references from their colleagues.

RUNNING LATE?

Instructors will wait up to 10 minutes after which point the lesson is considered forfeited. If you are running late for your appointment, please communicate with your instructor as soon as you think you will be late.

PERIODIC RATE INCREASE

To stay competitive in the market, stay current with economic growth, and compensate our teachers competitively and fairly as they become more experienced educators and performers, Blue Feather Music maintains the right to implement periodic rate increases.

Rate increases will always be communicated with you in advance. Rest assured you will always be receiving the highest value possible for your investment.

BEHAVIOR AND CONDUCT

Students are expected to behave in a nature that is conducive to a nurturing, positive learning environment. Blue Feather Music has the right to remove any student who is being disruptive, disrespectful or displaying any other type of inappropriate behavior. The teacher or administration has the right to decide what constitutes disruptive or inappropriate behavior.

SOCIAL MEDIA

We use social media to promote and encourage our students. Please review your media release per your contract.

IDEAL LOCATION & SAFETY

When considering the location of the lessons, please pick a location in your home that is quiet, and encourages focus and learning. Lessons at home, while convenient, are subject to higher levels of distraction. We highly recommend removing any distractions like siblings or friends, turn off  close-by televisions and radios, etc.

While the location should be quiet and removed of any distraction, please stay close by. For the protection of our instructors and your family: keep doors open, avoid basements, bedrooms or other closed-off locations.

A parent or guardian MUST be on location at all times during the lesson. Blue Feather Music does not have the legal licences to be caregivers or childcare service and cannot be responsible for your child should you leave the home during your appointment.

If you must leave due to an emergency, please consult with your instructor before leaving. They are not obligated to say yes, and may choose to end the lesson early, without penalty, so as not to be home alone with your child without a guardians’ supervision.
